1 CORINTHIANS 9:13
TITUS 2:12-13
“Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?”
“Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ . . . ”
The more people we get to the altar, the more people we help to become free. The longer people stay at the altar, the better equipped they will be to stay free. My entire Christian experience was birthed at the altar and is continually strengthened at the altar. Between altar time and time in the prayer closet, I keep growing and growing in Christ.
These verses teach us that we do possess the grace
to live godly, even in the present time. It is a grace that provides us the ability to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts. Without God’s grace to do this, it will be almost impossible to avoid sin and its deep and deadly reaching claws. The first step in staying free is to stay away from the things that creep into your life and start to control you.
I love to provide altar calls. Sometimes I call all the heads of households to come and stand with me. Sometimes I call the youth or those wanting to find their mate and marry. Whatever the reason, it is a great event in people’s lives. They always leave stronger and more encouraged by the Lord. Sometimes I don’t minister to them or lay hands on them. Many times I just ask people to stand in the presence of the Lord. The Lord does all the ministering.
ROMANS 13:14
Very few people can make it without church atten- dance and the elements it provides. There is a cleansing effect that happens each and every time you are in His house. There is nothing whatsoever on the earth that will do this for you, except the presence of God in His house.
Make no provision for the flesh! This refers to this present world. It is very important to cling to the things of God. Today is a rough day. It is filled with every foul thing possible. However, God’s grace is going to bring us through. God’s grace is going to give us the strength to be an overcomer. Those who do not possess this grace will not be able to beat sin and the filth of the day.
It’s called the law of accumulation. Here a little, there a little. For example, each time you spend time at the altar, you receive some anointing. Some of this is placed upon you to touch you at the time, and some is for you to take home with you. We need both. Some people don’t have this anointing or power because they don’t come to church. Many who do attend don’t come regularly.
“Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
Vickie and I have seen many people melt inwardly and actually begin to weep before the Lord, just over a song that was being sung during congregational worship service. In the many years I have pastored, I have seen people delivered from habits such as smoking, drinking, gossiping, pornography, and other sins and vices—all because they were practicing the presence of the Lord in His house. Praise God!
“But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not pro- vision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”
