LUKE 17:11-19
“And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.”
I have always been intrigued by these verses. They say
so many powerful things. I have read them over and over again. One of the greatest truths in these verses is the major punchline. These ten lepers were all cleansed of the disease, but only one of them was made whole. I also like the fact that Jesus asked him where the other nine were. This is
very significant.
I believe there are hidden truths in this account that are for us today. Let’s review this case:
• There were ten of them.
• They were all lepers.
• They all cried out to Jesus.
• They were all told to go show themselves to the priest.
• They all responded and went that way.
• They were all cleansed from leprosy as they obeyed.
• One of them returned to give thanks and show his gratitude. • This one was asked by Jesus about the other nine.
• This one worshiper was made whole.
I wish to God that more people would cry out to Jesus when they are in such trouble. I travel the nation over, and something has really come to my attention lately. I notice that the altars are pretty empty. Even though so many people
have been devastated financially, they still do not seem to be crying out and pressing in at the altars of God.
I have always believed that the answer is at the altars, and the healing is in His presence. Of all the
people in the area that day when Jesus walked by, it was the ten lepers who made themselves known. It
wasn’t a quiet scene. It was ten scared, hurting, dying men, yelling to Jesus with a loud voice.
